The British player reached the third round in three out of four major tournaments during the season.

The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the last two tournaments this season due to the illness that has affected her in recent days.

The 22-year-old had planned to participate in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to regain her health prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.

Those preparations will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as they have agreed to work together for the upcoming season.

Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

Another medical visit was necessary medical attention at the Ningbo Open this week, where she was defeated in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.

Her movement was noticeably restricted in the third set against Zhu due to back discomfort that has troubled her during parts of the season.

Such performances followed a positive campaign, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally after a long gap for the first time since 2022, finished with a trio of defeats.

Raducanu had three match points before losing to Jessica Pegula in round three in last month's Beijing event.

She secured twenty-eight matches in the current season and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami Open in March.

Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed during the tournament before losing in three sets to the world number four Pegula.

Her coach was trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role for the US Open.

The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was for the remainder of the year but the collaboration persists, with planned training sessions in the coming months.

She mentioned that a three-day test period alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.

The player was close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati during August.

Roig joined her in the New York tournament, where she made the third stage prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
