Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter on Tail of Frontrunners
Inter forward Lautaro Martínez netted a second-half brace to earn his team a 2-0 victory at Pisa, keeping the away side firmly engaged in the Serie A championship battle in spite of a somewhat shaky display.

Under Cristian Chivu, Inter now are placed in third position in the table with 27 points, level with runner-up Roma and just one point behind leaders Milan. Meanwhile, Pisa occupy the 18th spot with 10 points.

Inter traveled in Tuscany aiming to return to winning ways after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were made to battle throughout by promoted Pisa. The hosts created plenty of chances, but a clinical Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez drilled a first-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from point-blank with seven minutes remaining.
The team’s capacity to score despite pressure was crucial in earning the victory.

In Spain, the Basque side staged a dramatic comeback from 2-0 down to level at home against Villarreal, only to lose to a late strike five minutes into added time. Villarreal’s goals came from Ayoze Pérez shortly after the 30-minute mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler soon reduced the deficit and Ander Barrenetxea equalised three minutes from time. However, Moleiro delivered the last word late in stoppage time.
Later on La Liga match, Real Madrid travel to Girona requiring a win to go back to the top ahead of Barcelona, who recorded a 3-1 triumph over Alavés on Saturday.
