Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
