Severe Precipitation Exacerbate Conditions for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, UN Caution
Intense storms over the past week have worsened the extremely difficult situation of the vast number of evacuated residents in the region, according to aid organizations.
"Terrible" Night Poses Severe Dangers
A spokesman characterized the recent storm as "terrible", with rain so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"Last night was truly terrible for the families. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so strong," said the official.
Officials express grave worry that minors residing in tents in damp attire will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.
Deaths and Extensive Loss
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has passed away from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in roof cave-ins caused by the harsh conditions.
Further statements indicate a higher death toll. Officials reported that numerous homes had fully given way and scores had been partly destroyed.

Relief Operations Deemed Not Enough
Agencies have escalated shipments of tents, bedding and clothes following the ceasefire commenced, but they stress there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Officials are striving constantly to bring in that aid and to hand it out, but the scale of the necessities is so vast that we are faced with thousands of families and children who are genuinely enduring hardship every night," warned one spokesperson.
Long-Term Issues and Ceasefire Provisions
The second phase of the ceasefire encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the removal of military forces, and other terms.
Aid organizations have underscored the need for "increased and sustained aid to address pressing and future needs."
The war was initiated by an attack in October 2023. Following military operations have led to a high number of casualties in the area, as per official figures.
