The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC

Line of Duty cast members
Martin Compston are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
