The original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, announced how he will independently develop this new flavor within an individual collection highlighting causes the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators and Parent Company

This latest announcement deepens the continuing tension between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted that the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Flavor as a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen stated through an Instagram video how he is creating an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, that match the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

The new product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that was first established several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated how he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, following many years with the organization, citing concerns that the company's autonomy was undermined after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
